Reflection - 4 Years Later

After nearly four years since I first started and over a year since my last update, I randomly had the idea to check on my old game. Going through the devlogs reminded me of how poorly the game was made. At the time, I was fairly young and simply wanted to create a nice game that I could upload online. However, I was very inexperienced as this was my first time ever attempting to make a game.  And unfortunately, I had severely underestimated the amount of time it would take to produce a good product. I never intended for it to take as long as it did and I ended up getting tired of working on it as time dragged on. This, on top of my inexperience in game development, caused me to cut corners by rushing the features and levels I had planned to add and by doing minimal play testing. Unsurprisingly, this lead to a monumental amount of bugs that I needed to go back to fix several times.  This also means the game simply wasn’t as polished or fun as I had anticipated it would end up being. Originally, I planned to have 30 levels. I believe in its “finished” state there are only 9. And I’m certain there are still numerous bugs that need sorting out. I haven’t coded a complete game ever since I released this one. There were several projects I started on, with one even being in 3D, but I never ended up finishing them due to lack of art, lack of a desire to complete a project, or because I couldn’t get the game to be how I envisioned.  I do not know if I will revisit this game and attempt to add more levels or at the very least fix some of the bugs that remain but it’s more likely now than ever, and hopefully it’ll spark some new creativity for a brand new game. I know it’s unlikely someone reads this but I’ve gone this far so might as well keep my devlogs up to date! And if anyone made it to the end, thanks!
